Description
Bai Pingting has always been contrary the saying, “A woman’s virtue is ignorance”. Although she serves the Marquess of Jing-An as a maid, she leads a life far richer than most women. Her plain appearance is not what defines her — but her intelligence, far beyond many wise men.

Although Chu Beijie was an enemy general, she still cannot help being attracted to this man, despite the many lies and conspiracies…but between love and loyalty, she must make a choice. She can only hope that man’s love for her isn’t as deep as she thought.

One is a soul who seemingly destroys peace while the other aspires to be the sword that saves. Between them, lies a mountain of hate…

Who of the two most cunning people on earth cast the trap and just who captured the other?

Strong female character: VERY YES. SU LUO CAN’T COMPARE TO HER. NOBODY COULD COMPARE TO HER.
Storyline: WHY DIDYA STOP GODDAMNIT, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPEN

    11/10

    • reading says:

yes, su luo def cant be compared to pingting. Pingting rlly doesnt fall as easily as su luo, and true intelligence+still captivating tho everyone says average looks <3 thx for picking this up, plz keep it going!!

      • alyschu says:

We’re not picking this up, the original translator just happens to have decided to share it with us! 🙂

      • Perpetual Red says:

What do you mean…Pinting started crushing on him in less than 4 chapters after meeting him. Honestly, they have very different life stories and thus skillsets (Su Luo can fight for herself, as she used to be a “renowned assassin of the 21st century”)they can be compared on very equal grounds.

    • rose says:

can’t be more agree than this

  2. dulcia says:

Is this going to be translated here? I love this novel <3

  3. EilahD says:

First of all, I would like to say, THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH FOR TRANSLATING THIS MANHUA/NOVEL WHICHEVER IT IS. Sorry for the caps lock, I’m just so excited as this Manhua is one of my favorites aside from Chang Ge Xing and a few others.

    So, thanks again! 😀

    • Licena says:

Do you know of any plae where Chang ge Xing is being translated? I really love that story and was wondering if there was also a novel version such as this…

Thank you very much in advance

  4. JerryHatrick says:

    tl;dr
For average joe, I cannot recommend this story.
However, if you’re a fan of romance/drama/tragedy, then it’s top quality.

    ———————————————

My heart is not strong enough for a story like this.
It is very good. You really get attached to Pingting.
That is why, at every corner, when she has her heart torn up that it’s so painful.

I’m glad the story has a happy ending, but there is no way that I can continue to read it to get there. Who knows just how long it will take?

In a story where romance, drama and, in this case, tragedy are the leading genres, you can only have the main characters pulled apart so many times before it falls into a category I like to call, “stupid shit”. It’s top quality, “stupid shit”, but all the same, it’s “stupid shit”. Anyone who has read a lot of shoujo manga will know what I’m talking about. Kimi ni Todoke is a prime example. The last six episodes has each of the main characters wallowing in despair due to repeatedly misinterpreting what the other says.

  5. Jia says:

I love your note that this story has a happy ending. Thanks for that!

  6. June says:

So surprised and pleased at the update! Yea!! I’ll be looking forward to reading the final translations.

  8. starvenus says:

Comparing Pingting vs Sou Lou vs Qing Mo.
I think Qing Mo is the closest one to Pingting, although there isn’t enough chapter yet to see Qing Mo true potential.
The end is so close but so far, all we can do is wait for CKM translation. 🙂

  9. Lisa says:

I’m so eagerly waiting for the last volume. Btw, I love it when there’s a happy ending at the end.

  10. Rin says:

Thank you so much for translating! I can’t wait to read the last volume! Thanks a lottttttttt, I love you guys! Hee 😀

  11. Gallexier says:

  12. Melody says:

Omg Seriously? I’ve Heard There Was 7 Volumes To This Novel. Could It Be That You Will Not Translated More On Purpose. Or Were The Rumors A Lie; Does This Novels Only Have 3 Volumes?

  13. lowwiiee says:

  25. onigiri says:

  26. emmyv says:

Amazing story and heart throbbing feels! At first i was pondering about whether to read this novel or not and I’m glad i did. Love the story! Thank you for uploading and for translating this novel.

  27. cookie says:

I don’t know if it is only my problem..but is there only translation without scans? Where can i find scans?

    • xah says:

If you want raw text, google the Chinese of the name + “novel”. Doesn’t matter if the “novel” is in English, you’ll get to a site.

If you want actual scans of the novels, why don’t you buy them? They aren’t online.

  28. Laylow says:

Wow I was really surprised to know that Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang was already translated completely. Awesome! I been looking forward to the translator I been following before but unfortunately she dropped the novel. Thank you so much. I should have visit this site sooner.

  29. soysuva says:

Um before I read this, I want to come to an understanding: Is the female lead a “servant girl” rather than a fallen noble lady serving under a household based on the synopsis? If she’s just a servant girl, then is this a story about “a servant girl falling in-love with a general (and vise versa)”? Also does the main male lead have “concubines/harems” already or possibly in the future of the story?! If it does have extra annoying females trying to get between OTP, it’s not a story I want to dwell into. Just want to clarify these things before I read (putting on my to read list atm).

    • xah says:

      –May contain spoilers–

Yes. The female lead is a “servant girl” serving in the household of the male lead’s enemy. She is 100% a servant girl with no history, but she was treated well in her original household because of a mixture of her talent, being liked and insanely lucky. So yep, the story’s about “a servant girl falling in-love with a general (and vise versa)” all right. XD

Well, there’s a few suggestions that the female lead should become a concubine, but she never does and never will. Otherwise…

No visible concubines or harems sighted! Even in the epiloguey-chapters, the male lead hasn’t gotten sick of the female lead yet. So there aren’t any annoying females that get in the way in this story. (Note: You can only see some “annoying females” in the doujin oneshot which is set in the future after the main story, but they’re mob characters. Yep, definitely got that mob vibe. No harem can rise between the main couple!)

Also to note, the antagonist is a male. He tries to get between the OTP (resulting in all sorts of drama). His reason? Some people speculate that he actually loved the female lead (romantically), but author says that she intended it to be more trying to get his lost innocence back or not being able to face the present due to not letting go the past — that sort of thing. He doesn’t stick around forever, so don’t let it get you down. 😛

So yep, sorry for the long answer. Let me know if you still want to read it. xD

  30. Aica says:

This is my 10th time reading this. I really love reading novels but this is the best novel I’ve ever read and my most favorite… Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang. I like the character Bai Pingting, even though she’s only a maidservant she’s very clever.

  31. Ninga says:

Love it.Lucky it was a happy ending and my firt novel at that.😜

  32. Anonymous says:

does anyone know where to buy the manhua version of this?

  33. gongzhumai13 says:

gu fang still holds the most special place in my heart. which is also the reason why i am aching about the drama adaption since i still can’t accept wallace chung and angelababy as chu beijie and bai pingting.

  34. Ashress says:

q w q I’m grateful for the Note… It seems good but that tragedy tag made me worry… Thank you for the Note 😀 I mean you didn’t even have to write it but you did~ Thanks <3 I'll get start on the novel now~

i wait a long time so i begin to search the raw
and then i know the manhua have the novel translation

i love the character whether it bai pingting or chu beijie
    they’re great couple

i just hope the drama will be great as the novel is
and the actor and the actress can act suit the character and there will not so much change in the drama

If there is? How do I find it??? Please…..

  45. cheeiky says:

Thanks and credits to everyone that made us possible to read this translated Chinese novel. If not for the drama adaptation of this novel, I won’t look for this novel to read. It’s understandable that some parts were different from the novel as it’s difficult to be acted onscreen in drama. But still grateful to writer of this novel who wrote a beautiful story that I have come to appreciate so deeply with unforgettable characters. Yes, I know this novel is not of top quality but still pretty good nonetheless. Thanks once more to all that made it possible for me to have a good time reading.

  46. Dianatouille says:

I loved it, from the beginning until the end,a truly and lovely love story. The characters were well built as well as the course of the story. There were some details that I found a bit out of place but nothing is perfect and at the end I liked really much what I did read. A love like Bai Pingting and Chu Beijie is something unforgettable. Thank you so much for the translation.

Thank you for translating this novel! I loved the TV drama’s story line but the blue screen and the main actress sucked. I liked the voice actors better. The novel is the best since it explains things that the tv drama doesn’t.

Great TV drama as well. Good lead characters. Saw the drama first. Read the story later. There are many differences but the story essence is same.

Help me find more such drama and stories. Thank you.
