Chapter 3: If You Want to Die So Much, I’ll Fulfill Your Wish
>>Part 3<<
Lai Yixin taught as he chatted with Chen Luonian and Chen Luonian slowly learned that Lai Yixin was already good at sports since junior high school. For all the sports, whether it be track and field, ball, or other types of sports, he got the hang of them the moment he learned them and only became even more proficient. He would soon grasp the techniques as if he had practiced for a long time and was a genius everyone envied.
However, when he got into high school, his worldview was widened. Although he continued to be a well-known figure in all sorts of competitions, as he participated in them, he found that there was someone stronger in every single sport. This meant that although he learned fast and was very good all-round, he couldn’t beat the true specialized talents in each domain.
Of course, if he decided to specialize in a particular sport, he might also have the chance to excel. Thus, Lai Yixin had worried for a long time over which field he should concentrate on. However, during that time, a person suddenly found him and proposed that since he learned everything quickly, he should just learn martial arts. That person then found teachers of each style to teach him different martial arts techniques. Lai Yixin dove headfirst into the world of martial arts. After one year, Lai Yixin obtained suitable martial arts skills and after passing many evaluations, was brought to enter the Bai Sect of the martial dao school… That was during the time the selection criteria to join was very strict.
“Eh?” When Chen Luonian heard the last part, he was surprised. As he copied Lai Yixin’s movements, he asked, “The one who had you learn martial arts was someone of the martial dao school?”
“En, it was Weishan’s uncle. You’ve seen him before as well,” Lai Yixin said with a smile. “That’s Huang Qi, Huang dage. After I joined, I became a group with Weishan.”
Does that mean the Sect Leader, Bai Xuanlan is Ye Weishan’s aunt? Chen Luonian asked in confusion, “Weishan also calls him Huang dage, doesn’t she?”
“That’s the sect’s custom. We’re not of ‘master to disciple line of inheritance’ but of ‘same sect as one family’.” Lai Yixin switched to a different posture for Chen Luonian to copy as he continued, “Other than having a person in charge, everyone that enters the sect are matched in older brother, young brother, older sister, and young sister pairs. In private though, Weishan still calls Huang dage uncle. Because you haven’t formally joined yet, you don’t know about these customs… Alright, we’ve gone through this once so you try it.”
“Alright.” Chen Luonian nodded. As he walked forward, he thought: so this means that Huang Qi had specially sought out a martial arts genius that went to the same school as Weishan to partner with her? Or perhaps it might have been Ye Weishan who discovered Lai Yixin’s abilities and called her uncle to step in?
“Luonian is starting to practice footwork?” Hou Tianliang and the rest seemed to have gotten to a break point in teaching. They suddenly moved over and Hou Tianliang said with a smile, “Luonian, it’s three months late ah. Your pace has fallen way behind.”
“Urgh…” Chen Luonian could only smile bitterly.
“Luonian really can’t attract qi?” Huang Zongru also came over, then he slightly frowned as he said, “You’re a dispersion type. After you draw some qi, you can directly practice techniques manipulating outer qi. In reality, you really don’t need to practice footwork, right? It wastes too much time and isn’t very effective either.”
“What Unrivaled Giant means is that this a way of training that’s in defiance of the natural order.” Zhang Zhiwen threw an arm over Hou Tianliang’s shoulders and laughed as he lowered his voice. “He hates people defying natural order the most. He said that other than having a distinguishing feature, those people don’t have a single good point.”
“Stop messing around,” Huang Zongru said, a little embarrassed. “That’s in games… And I don’t say this about everyone. Some people are really creative.”
“Luonian, how did you help Xiao Rui get monster essence?” Zhang Zhiwen then asked.
“Using the ones I killed.” Chen Luonian had already thought of an answer earlier. “I don’t count as a member of Bai Sect, so I can use it myself.”
“See!?” Hou Tianliang cried out. “I said that we should have secretly kept a bit! The mountain was filled with monsters back then. Even if we sent up a little less, no one would have known.”
“Even if you had kept some, you don’t know how to refine it so wouldn’t you have to send it up regardless?” Zhang Zhiwen laughed.
“That’s true.” Hou Tianliang couldn’t argue against that.
“You all aren’t saying anything. Alright, I’ll ask,” Zhang Zhiwen said with a laugh. “Luonian, they actually want to ask you about your relationship with Xiao Rui.”
“What ‘they’? It’s clearly you that wants to ask?” Hou Tianliang exclaimed. “The one I love has always been Huai Zhen jie ah. Luonian, when will Huai Zhen jie come?”
“Save it!” Zhang Zhiwen said. “You clearly said you’ve already forgotten Huai Zhen jie. I’m the one waiting for her wholeheartedly.”
“Shoo you stinkin’ mosquito! You’re the one whose feelings change quick,” Hou Tianliang said with a serious face.
“The important part is Unrivaled Giant ah,” Zhang Zhiwen switched back to the topic. “If you guys are sweethearts, then Unrivaled Giant is going to lose his love ah. I heard Unrivaled Giant saw you guys on a date?”
“Who…” Huang Zongru’s face turned red and he stammered, “I don… I don’t have that meaning. It’s… it’s you guys that are like that, right?”
“Date! Is it really like that?” Lai Yixin asked in shock.
Chen Luonian just happened to have finished practicing a round and he quickly said, “No, we don’t have any special relationship.”
“Really?” Zhang Zhiwen smiled and said, “Then I’m going to announce it to everyone, ok?”
Announce it? Chen Luonian didn’t really understand what this meant. He slightly knitted his brows as he replied, “Up to you.”
“That’s great.” Zhang Zhiwen turned around and shouted, “Hey! Everyone take note! Luonian said that Xiao Rui isn’t his girlfriend! Those who wish to pursue can go ahead and pursue!”
Wu Peirui who was swinging a large blade slightly turned red. She stopped moving and scolded with a smile, “Mosquito ge, how can you be like this!? There’s no way I’ll let people casually pursue me!”
“Then what do you want to do?” Zhang Zhiwen asked, laughing.
“I’ll choose for myself.” Wu Peirui gave a humph, then continued to swing her blade.
Chen Luonian didn’t pay close attention to the ruckus afterwards and focused on practicing his movements. Everyone saw that Chen Luonian was concentrating on practicing, so after chatting a little bit more, they slowly dispersed to start working on their own tasks.
◇◇◇◇
After about an hour, Lai Yixin saw that Chen Luonian was gradually getting used to the movements. He walked closer and asked, “Luonian, since you can’t take the route of manipulating outer qi for the time being, do you want to train in a long range weapon as well?”
Chen Luonian never thought about this matter. However, due to Huai Zhen’s threatening, he definitely had to carry the Azure Dagger around. If he learned something else, wouldn’t he have to carry two weapons? Carrying two is way too much of a pain! Not to mention… Chen Luonian couldn’t help but look at that large thing in Wu Peirui’s hands. Long ranged weapons are the biggest annoyance within annoyances! He hesitated a moment, then asked, “There’s already nothing more I can practice for the dagger?”
“It’s not like that… Daggers that are designed to be light were originally used for assassination or sneak attacks. They’re not suitable for battling head on with other weapons. If you stubbornly insist on using daggers, the key trick is to approach quickly and kill in one strike. If you’re not confident, you must immediately retreat. Regardless of whether you are approaching or retreating, speed is the most important key…” Lai Yixin paused, then said, “If you only rely on your physique and don’t draw in qi, your movements will have limits. Once you encounter a powerful enemy, you may be in a deadlock with no room to advance or retreat.”
When monsters get stronger, it would be time for him to flee for his life. In reality, Chen Luonian was just practicing for fun right now and actually didn’t harbor any hopes of getting stronger. Thus, he smiled and said, “That’s fine. I’ll just master the dagger first before anything else.”
“That also works. Then once you get used to the footwork, we’ll use actual combat to practice movements for feigning. However, you must prepare yourself mentally. Once your skill in using the dagger gets to a certain degree, it may be harder to improve than other weapons…” Lai Yixin muttered to himself for a while before he then said, “However, perhaps one day you’ll be able to draw in qi. At that time, you can use the outer qi as your main weapon and the dagger as a complement so then the time used up now wouldn’t count as a waste. En, there’s no problem!” When he got to the end, he cheered up again.
I already have the Original Chaos Breath inside my body, I won’t be able to draw in qi this entire lifetime… Naturally, though, Chen Luonian didn’t say this out loud and just nodded before getting ready to keep practicing.
“Yixin.” Ye Weishan suddenly walked to them. “Qiya phoned and asked if we could provide assistance. I’ve agreed.”
“What happened?” Lai Yixin asked in surprise. “Weren’t they pretty much all cleared out? There’s still some in the mountain area?”
“The remaining ones are ones that are better at concealing their monster qi,” Ye Weishan said. “Because it’s a waste of time to try and find all of them, they had us continue attending class. There’s actually quite a lot of people still searching… However, Qiya’s group seemed to have found one. But right as they got close, it hid itself again. They think perhaps they could find it if there were people to provide assistance.”
“So we’re going to search?” Lai Yixin then asked, “How many people need to go? Didn’t you say that Luonian’s sensing ability is quite good as well? How about having him come along?”
“Eh?” Chen Luonian was a little surprised, but since there were these bodyguards around, there was no harm in searching for a monster. Hence, he nodded and said, “If you need me, then I’ll go.”
“That’s great!” Ye Weishan seemed a little surprised that Chen Luonian agreed. She said in pleasant surprise, “Since you can also detect monster qi, if you come along, we can split off to move in one additional group… I think Zongru should come with us as well. Let’s go with four people?”
“Alright,” Huang Zongru nodded as he got ready.
“Tianliang, Zhiwen, we’ll leave this place to you guys. The rest of you, practice properly, alright?” Ye Weishan exhorted them a little before leading Chen Luonian and the rest to leave.
◇◇◇◇
As they walked out, Chen Luonian peeked at Huang Zongru. Currently, he was carrying a slightly short sheathed broadsword on his back and holding a rectangle metal shield about a meter long in his left hand. It looked quite cumbersome but he didn’t seem to mind. He walked with his back straight and forged ahead with large steps rather like a warrior heading into battle.
Bringing a shield… then he’s definitely someone in charge of defense in the game?
However, games were games. Was there really a need to bring such a large shield to fight those little monsters? And there really wasn’t anything to attract the monster’s attention to him so it wasn’t definite that the monsters would attack him, right? Chen Luonian found it rather funny and couldn’t help but shake his head.
As for Lai Yixin, he didn’t assemble that silver spear yet. He held it casually in his hand in its three sections form. Perhaps it was because the existences of the martial dao school and subjugation of monsters was no longer a secret, so there was no need to put the weapon away in his bag.
“Luonian, over here,” Lai Yixin called out right after they exited the teacher’s building. Only then did Chen Luonian realize that they weren’t heading towards the school entrance but towards the side. Just as Chen Luonian felt confused, they arrived at the teacher’s parking lot. At one side was a white bodied and red striped police highway patrol jeep which they walked to.
“Eh?” Chen Luonian was shocked.
“It’s been specially approved, after all, there is a need for it. It’s nothing but an old car that was eliminated in the police selection.” Lai Yixin got into the driver’s seat as he said, “Get on.”
Seeing Ye Weishan get into the front passenger seat naturally, Chen Luonian and Huang Zongru obediently sat in the back. Lai Yixin activated the red warning lights in front of the car then turned back to say, “Luonian, hold on tight.”
“Huh?” Chen Luonian didn’t understand what he meant and reached out to casually grab the handrail at the side. All he heard was the sudden snarl the engine emitted. Then, the car suddenly rapidly whirled backward before rushing out.
Fuck! Is this a street race!? Is it that urgent? Chen Luonian hastily grabbed onto the body of the car. As he experienced the shock, Huang Zongru who was also grabbing onto the body of the car tightly said quietly with a bitter face, “Yixin only learned how to drive last Wednesday night, yet his speed is already so fast that it can scare a person to death.”
“Eh?” Chen Luonian thought, stunned, that this Senior Brother who’s always smiling with his baby face seriously has some strange capabilities.

Lmao, I mean, from what I’ve witnessed of China, the roads are crazy and the driving techniques of the people driving are good in a way that would completely horrify American drivers, aka my brother who kept complaining nonstop how dangerous it is. I’m assuming it’s about the same in Taiwan? In any case, in one driving trip with my uncle, I heard more cars beeping than I have over an entire year in America. What was nice was that it went fast and there wasn’t a lot of stopping, so I enjoyed the pretty smooth ride especially since we somehow managed not to run anyone over.
