Chapter 10: You Really Are a Pervert?
>>Part 3<<
In the wake of the gradual increase in dao xi, the frequency of monster appearances was also becoming greater and the amount of people that saw them was also increasing. Finally, in Italy an old style shutter film camera that didn’t require electricity took continous pictures of the entire course of events during a daylight battle between a police officer and a monster, thus exposing the entire matter.
In fact, the governments of all the nations knew that there would be a day where they could no longer keep it under wraps and had already started secretly arranging for such an occasion. All the television stations had already started broadcasting bunch of programs related to monsters enthusiastically since a few months earlier, trying to mentally prepare ordinary people as much as possible. And with the revelation of monsters, martial arts schools all over the world that had killed monsters in secret were simultaneously hailed as heroes. On one hand, this allowed the citizens to feel relieved. On the other hand, the sects were able to jumpstart their recruitment process and subsequently turned their private movement into a public one.
Out Taiwan’s three sects–Bai, Li, and He, the Li sect had the closest relationship with the government. All its newcomers were directly selected from the military and police’s special system, allowing them to very quickly train up a pile of talents. As for the He Sect, its Sect Leader had a different view and didn’t want to fight with monsters. He brought along the members of his sect and vanished without a trace; there was now no longer any news of them.
As for the Bai Sect, there were few newcomers from the start. Other than the Sect Leader, there were only three small groups. Qiya’s group wasn’t interested in accepting new members and only helped with collecting monster essence. The other group’s leader was called Liu Qiaowen. She had just recently returned from mainland ChinaT/N and Chen Luonian didn’t know much infomation about her. Then, all that was left was Ye Weishan’s group. Even though they were willing to accept new members, there wasn’t enough monster essence to go around. They also didn’t have the energy to bring too many people out at the same time. If it wasn’t for them being the youngest group out there, which turned them into a subject for debate, probably no one would’ve taken note of their existence. And their biggest problem at present was that they lacked dispersion type members.
The previous times that Lai Yixin came to find Chen Luonian he also mentioned this matter… Dispersion types could sense monster essence from a further distance than other types, allowing a group to discover the appearance of monsters at the earliest possible time. That was why each of the specialized groups within the Bai Sect consisted of a dispersion type leading a number of congregation types when they operated. Right now, even though Ye Weishan’s little group had more members, there was no way to split it into two groups, so they couldn’t increase their efficiency when it came to collecting monster essence.
Chen Luonian led the ponytailed girl, Wu Peirui, to the basement entrance beneath the teacher’s building. In the past Chen Luonian had always pushed open the door and directly entered but now the situation wasn’t the same as before. He hesitated for a moment, but still knocked on the door.
After a few seconds, the door opened. Chen Luonian’s eyes met with the person behind the door and both were surprised. Chen Luonian hesitated for a second before speaking first: “Weishan.”
The person that opened the door was precisely Ye Weishan. She looked at Chen Luonian, her expression turning a little complicated for a while before she finally said: “You… what are you here for?”
In these three months, Lai Yixin had gone to look for Chen Luonian the most. Hou Tianlian and the rest had also encountered him before, it was only Ye Weishan that didn’t bother to look for Chen Luonian at all. When they occasionally encountered each other at school, Ye Weishan would even turn her head away, refusing to make eye contact with Chen Luonian.
Chen Luonian didn’t know how he’d offended her. But since he had no plans to join, he didn’t bother with this question. Later, he also started taking the initiative to avoid Ye Weishan in an attempt to prevent any feelings of loathing from arising. Earlier, Huang Zongru clearly said that they both weren’t here, which was why Chen Luonian decided to make a trip here. But unexpectedly, he still ran into her.
“Ah! It’s Luonian.” Lai Yixin saw from far away and cheerfully rushed over, “Do you want to join now?”
“Fuck! The one that’s unafraid of death has come!” Hou Tianliang and Zhang Zhiwen laughed happily as they also rushed over. Because of their family factor, they underwent Bian Ti a week after Huang Zongru. As of now, they had completely harmonized with the substance and now possessed the ability to go through Bian Ti and absorb qi. The three’s movements were all very quick, in just a split second they had already squeezed to the door.
Huan Zongru was currently at a different side guiding several new members on how to hit the metal plate. When he saw Chen Luonian, he waved. His expression was also a bit surprised.
“I’m here to bring her over.” Chen Luonian said: “This is Wu Peirui, a first year. Last time she wasn’t able to sign up at your newcomer recruitment event. I heard that you guys lacked girls so I brought her over for a look.”
“Why weren’t you able to sign up?” Lai Yixin looked with surprise towards Wu Peirui.
“She skipped grades, so she’s only fourteen.” Chen Luonian said.
“Eh?” Everyone was stunned and sized Wu Peirui up in disbelief.
Wu Peirui also felt a little embarrassed. She retreated half a step and knitted her brows, “It’s for real!”
“Little meimei*, do you have a lot of guts?” Zhang Zhiwen hurriedly asked: “Are you scared of monsters?”
妹妹- “meimei” younger sister, can be used to address people not blood related
“I’m not scared of them.” Wu Peirui said.
“Then that’s great.” Hou Tianliang blurted out: “We’ll let you see the film right away. As long as you really aren’t scared, gege*, I, will immediately…”
哥哥- “gege” older brother, can be used to address people not blood related
“Yixin.” Ye Weishan suddenly said: “Can you go get the film for this Junior Sister to watch and give her a brief explanation while you’re at it?”
“Ok!” Lai Yixin nodded and led Wu Peirui away.
Ye Weishan then looked towards Hou and Zhang who were still standing at the side enjoying the lively scene. She gave a light cough and said: “I want to talk with Luonian for a bit.”
The two shared a glance and shrugged before running off.
Ye Weishan looked at the surroundings. Seeming to still feel uneasy, she said in a quiet voice: “Let’s talk upstairs.”
Chen Luonian followed Ye Weishan up. As they walked to the back of a flight of stairs, Chen Luonian’s heart suddenly felt a little strange. They had previously argued here, and now they were unexpectedly meeting here again after three months had passed..
Ye Weishan wasn’t smiling. She hesitated for a long time before finally asking: “You brought that girl here, does that mean you’re not angry with me anymore?”
“Eh?” Chen Luonian blanked out for a moment before saying: “Weren’t you the one who was angry at me?”
“You were angry at me, that’s why I got angry!” Ye Weishan fixed her eyes on Chen Luonian.
“I wasn’t angry at you though?” Chen Luonian wasn’t able to make heads or tails of what was going on.
“Then why didn’t you join?” Ye Weishan’s expression didn’t change but her voice carried a hint of anger, “Don’t say that you’re afraid of death! No one would believe that kind of lie! Are you angry with me for causing you to get hurt? Or was it because I criticized you that day? I’ve already apologized, what else do you want? Everyone’s blaming me.”
“Who’s blaming you?” Chen Luonian asked with some surprise: “I’ve never heard them mention it before.”
“Every time it’s mention that we can’t find a dispersion type, they always say that it’s such a pity you didn’t join and that it’s impossible for you to be afraid of death…” Ye Weishan pouted before she angrily said: “Isn’t this the same as blaming me?”
So it turns out that Ye Weishan had times when she was unreasonable as well. Chen Luonian found it funny as he replied: “The problem is I really wasn’t angry ah. I don’t like to be restricted, that’s why I didn’t join. You’ve misunderstood.”
“Who’s restricting you?” Ye Weishan’s anger refused to abate as she said: “Do I look like I like to control people?”
“Uh…” Chen Luonian sighed and said: “Alright, I’ll tell you the truth.”
“What?” Ye Weishan looked towards Chen Luonian doubtfully.
“There is a different reason why I didn’t join, but that’s my own matter and definitely not because I was angry at you.” Chen Luonian spread out his hands and said: “If you still don’t believe, then that’s your choice.”
Ye Weishan was stunned for a moment, looking as if she was unsure of whether she should believe him. Chen Luonian thought again a little, then said: “And, even if I’m not that scared of dying, I really am scared of trouble. I’ve never wanted to fight with monsters. This is something I’ve said from the very start.”
“But you’re obviously always fighting with monsters!” Ye Weishan stomped her foot, “I know you have at least four times!”
“Uh…that…that’s all because…” Chen Luonian blanked out, not knowing how he should reply to that.
Ye Weishan saw Chen Luonian’s expression and felt that it was funny for some reason. She couldn’t suppress the movement of her lips as they exposed a trace of a smile.
Chen Luonian saw her smile surface on her face and forced out a smile of his own. With this smile, the unhappy emotions between the two vanished in an instant like smoke in thin air.
After a moment, Ye Weishan asked quietly: “That um… is your chest wound healed?”
Actually, it had healed by that same night. Chen Luonian shrugged, “It’s long been healed.”
“That’s right.” Ye Weishan’s eyes lit up and revealed a look of interest, “That little Junior Sister——could she be your girlfriend?”
“No, I just met her.” Chen Luonian smiled as he said: “I heard her say that she didn’t meet the qualifications to join the martial dao school, and because I knew you guys were lacking girls, I brought her here for a look.”
Ye Weishan replied ‘en’, then her gaze turned and she hesitated, looking as if she had something to say but couldn’t quite say it.
It couldn’t be that even she wanted to tell him to come back? Chen Luonian, upon seeing this, sighed and said: “Tonight is a full moon again, don’t you guys have an operation?”
Ye Weishan was slightly started. She gazed at Chen Luonian and said, “You.. you’re still paying attention to the moon’s phases?”
Because that fox might return for a few days when a full moon comes around ah. Chen Luonian couldn’t give a reply like that, so he could only say: “Just paying a little attention.”
“Our places were all taken by the Li Sect so we don’t have anywhere to go.” Ye Weishan said: “Because of this, the collection of monster essence is also going really slowly…”
“That’s too unreasonable!” Chen Luonian asked with astonishment: “Why would it be like this?”
“They have connections with the government so they’re much more influential than us.” Ye Weishan gave a light sigh and said: “With our specialized cultivation style, there’s no way for us to expand without a dispersion type group leader. That’s the weakness of our sect.”
It winded back to the old topic once again. If he didn’t escape now he’ll be asked to join again… Chen Luonian made a prompt decision, “I should go now.”
“You’re going?” Ye Weishan was a little disappointed.
“En, you guys take care. I’ll just leave that little Junior Sister to you guys.” Chen Luonian smiled, waved and left.
On the road home, Chen Luonian’s mood lightened up when he thought about how the misunderstanding between him and Ye Weishan was resolved, and that he wouldn’t need to avoid her anymore. . Following that, with the thought of possibly seeing that vixen today when he got home, Chen Luonian’s spirits got even better and he couldn’t help but quicken his pace.
◇◇◇◇
It was already dark when he got to the entrance of his apartment building. Chen Luonian entered the pitch-black staircase. Suddenly, his steps paused. He lifted his head and looked, then his eyes lit up. He didn’t open the lights and just like this, suddenly started quickly vaulting up. He interweaved between this 之(pronounced zhi1) shaped staircase as he headed up, and with just seven or so jumps, he reached the top floor.
Chen Luonian had constantly allowed the Hun Dun Yuan Xi permeate his entire body over the past three months, allowing him to gradually get used to it. He no longer needed much effort to maintain its stability. It was easier than keeping it concentrated around his throat because it increased the containment range, substantially decreasing the odds of losing control at night.
The good thing about letting the Yuan Xi continuously permeate his entire body was that slowly transformed his body, like a person that had gone through Bian Ti. His body was gradually transforming and he was much sturdier compared to before. Even though this type of movement can only rely on the muscles and the physique and still couldn’t compare to the ‘qixi as main, physique as support type’ of body that has gone through Bian Ti, it made ordinary life much more convenient
But other than that, there were no other notable changes. Since Huai Zhen mentioned the abilities of the phoenix, Chen Luonian experimented with this and that. He did faintly feel a sort of indescribable feeling flooding his body, outside his body and all around his surroundings. But other than coming to the guess that it was probably the boundaries of the immortal world, there was really nothing else beneficial that came from it.
Chen Luonian rushed out of the stairway and opened the door to his house. When he walked into the house, he opened the lights and said with a smile, “Vixen! Since you’re here why didn’t you turn on the lights? And you’re still hiding?”
“Hey!” There was just the sound of a girl’s lovely laughter coming from Chen Luonian’s room. Chen Luonian only saw a white shadow that suddenly pounced over like a flash of lightning and collided full on with Chen Luonian. This was precisely Huai Zhen.

T/N – I just learned that 大陸(da4lu4), which is where my grandparents live, is actually mainland China!? Whenever I go to visit my grandparents, we always say we’re going to ‘da4lu4’ so I had always assumed it was just the name of that rural region. Lol, time to rewrap my brain around that term since I’ve always associated ‘da4lu4’ with a small rural area.
Large paragraph chunks are soo painful~~ An hour to do the first page Q-Q. Dialogue is generally so much easier~~
Lastly, 狐狸精(hu2li jing1) which is fox-spirit has the same connotation as vixen does in English. It’s generally used derogatorily, but sometimes teasingly like Chen Luonian does. Fox-spirits are generally characterized as sly and seductive. They’re usually disliked because in myths they usually drain the life of their lovers or eat their livers, stuff like that. And so, fox-spirit sounds too neutral, so I’ll be translating that term as vixen~
