Chapter 424 : Gossip

Xi Jue mentally facepalmed. “What spy? All of the people who serve by the Ancestor’s side have to cut off relations with his or her family, clan, sect, or country!”

“In the time period in which they are serving the Ancestor, they can’t come back to visit. Violators will be kicked out of the Ancestor’s Sun Moon Sect!”

This crazy?! He actually required people to cut off relations with their family and home. This was stricter than becoming a monk!

“Since it’s so strict, those girls must’ve been forced, right?”

Xi Jue laughed bitterly. “You’re wrong. They’re very willing. People will fight each other just to get one of the limited positions by the Ancestor’s side! The people who can get a spot are the finest people in the world. To be a part of this is harder than to get into the Sun Moon Sect as a disciple. Those girls get replaced every three years too.”

“So it’s only for three years. Three years later, can they return home?”

“Of course! Three years later, even if they don’t want to come back, they still have to. This is the Ancestor’s law, and there’s no one who could violate it.”

“Then that’s not bad. However, since they’re by the Ancestor’s side, they must’ve had a lot of interactions with the Ancestor, right? They probably also know a lot of stuff about the Sun Moon Sect…” Ning Xuemo hypothesized.

Even if it was the most mysterious faction, a person who was only in the group for three years could also pretty much know everything.

Xi Jue shook his head. “When they come back, they never say anything related to the Sun Moon Sect; it’s as if they forgot that they were ever attendants of the Ancestor. Ning Xuemo’s heart jumped. She blurted out, “Do you think that the Ancestor did… something to the girls, and the Ancestor was scared of them spreading it out since it would negatively impact his reputation. Therefore, he made them lose their memories?”

Xi Jue mentally facepalmed again, rudely saying, “What is your head filled with?! The Ancestor would definitely not be that tasteless! Those girls are called the Sacred Maidens. They would go as virgins and come back as virgins. They can still marry, and they usually marry people who are especially outstanding…”

Okay, it was her brain that was weird. Looks like the Ancestor just did not want the girls to leak out any information regarding the Sun Moon Sect. He did not have any other thoughts.

She paused then suddenly raised her head to look at Xi Jue. “Why are you suddenly bringing up those girls? Do they have anything to do with me?”

Xi Jue coughed before saying, “I only wanted to confirm that the Ancestor wasn’t Han Shanyue. Think about it. The Ancestor’s most unremarkable maids are all geniuses with outstanding identities. If he wanted a concubine, then his standards must be very high! If he was to give any hints that he was looking for a concubine, then waves of girls would be chasing after him, begging for marriage! Does he really need to wrack his brains out to scheme to marry you?”

Ning Xuemo was speechless.

She cast a sidelong look at him. “Are you saying I’m not worthy of being schemed by him in this way? That I would have to thank him for giving me the position of a concubine?!”

Xi Jue’s head hurt. “I’m talking about the Ancestor… The Ancestor wouldn’t be this senseless. This Han Shanyue, on the other hand, is a little hard to figure out… The Ancestor’s purpose is to protect this continent. How would he have time to meddle in the affairs of us mortals? This entire chapter resembles the type of conversations the girls at my school have : “Did you hear so and so did this?” “I heard that so and so was voted the cutest guy in the school” etc.

I really want to photoshop a picture of some ancient Chinese guy (Ibuki Satsuki draws them really nicely) as Han Shanyue onto a fat sheep (and then pin it to a dartboard). If anyone is up to do that… send them to [email protected]! I would love to see some fan art, and I’m sure Han Shanyue would “love it” too~

My favorite drink… I used to really like Dr. Pepper, then I sort of outgrew my soda phase. Aloe Vera juice is pretty good. That and tea. And frappes when I’m in a sweet mood. 😛
