Volume 3: Beast’s Bride, Chapter 0: Dark Prayer

The country was falling apart. The earth as well. The sky as well. Even people’s hearts…

This barren land was unfit for human habitation; because of that, the rulers of each country declared it [Forbidden Territory], sending a large amount of [Human Personnel] under the guise of [Pioneering].

Criminals and people who were arrested under the [Pretext] of minor crimes were sent there, but the ones who were sent most were those with mixed blood between different races.

People with deformities. People with the appearance of a beast or who had scaly skin. People with horns coming from their forehead or with reptilian eyes.

Even though they inherited features from their [Non-human] ancestry, at least one of their parents was human. Most of them had a human’s feelings.

Regardless, the humans who were disgusted by them gathered them up and drove them into the remote area.

In order to live in this barren land, they killed, stole from, and violated their [Comrades]. As their mixed bloods mixed ever more, they became a new race.

Black skin, black hair, silver eyes… they came to be known as the [Daemons]

They, who had inherited the blood of the non-human races, had stronger magical power than humans. Living in the barren wastelands as they were, they had forgotten how to empathize with others, doing nothing but quarrel with each other. The blood which fell from their battles polluted the land with resentment to the point that the rising negativity even reached the sky, blocking out the sun, devastating the earth further.

Looking out at that country from an aging castle, a man gave out a slight sigh.

{This country has reached its limit……}

The strong oppressed the weak, and the weak took it as natural and accepted being oppressed.

The strong people also took it for granted, and believed that the country would become stronger if the weak people were gone.

The way thing were going, within a few hundred years, the daemon race would weaken and fall into ruin.

The man diverted his eyes from the stormy town and walked through the corridors of the royal castle.

{… A strong power is needed.}

It would be impossible to change the mindsets of the Daemon race. It was impossible to teach the daemons, who only knew of robbing, to think of not robbing others as normal.

There was no choice but brute force.

There would have to be a mighty [Power] to force both the strong and weak people to obey.

At the underground altar the man went to, there was a huge summoning formation in place.

The size alone was several times the size used in the demon summoning case, and hundreds of daemons had been dedicating their magic power to it for a decade.

{But, it’s still not enough…}

If it were only normal summoning, several years of magic would have been enough.

Of the [Greater Demons] that had appeared a long time ago, it was said that there were three of the [Master Class]…

If one were to be summoned, no amount of preparations would give one peace of mind.

If even a tiny mistake was made, it would spell the day of extinction for the Daemons.

“Is the progress going smoothly?”

When the man spoke to the daemons working to pour magical power into the summoning formation, the large warlord looking daemon who was overseeing the operation kneeled in front of the man.

“Currently, we’re at about 80% of the maximum prescribed amount… If we were to call even an Archdemon class with the current magic amount accumulated, we could call four or five of them.”

“…… I see.”

He understood what the warlord wanted to say.

Rather than relying on the presence of some legendary class that was unknown, it would be easier to handle an Archdemon who could do huge damage to a human nation just by being unleashed.

He was able to do this delicate work because of his high intelligence, but as a warrior he would be able to match blades with the [Hero] who would come if they released an Archdemon.

However, it would be useless.

Destroying and stealing from humans would only postpone the problem of them only knowing how to deprive others.

“………”

The man was tired.

He had thrown away the notion that the daemons would be able to stay calm if they took the territory of the humans, for they would surely fight each other to become rich.

The man had given up hope for the daemons alone.

“Keep working. No change in the plan.”

When the man sharply spoke those words, he poured out his magic power, said to be the most powerful amongst the Daemons, into the summoning formation.

This desperate behavior caused the warlords, who had watched over him since childhood, to look down upon him with lonesome eyes, as they renewed their determination to follow him.

“Even if it takes my life… Daemon Lord”

The daemons have no god. The strongest existence among the daemons, the [Daemon Lord] is their god, and there was no stronger person.

Still, the warlord dared to pray.

He prayed from the bottom of his heart to the [Demon] that would grant his wish.

Before he knew it, his heart gradually calmed down…

At that time, a certain [Demon] was pouring a stupidly huge amount of magical power into the general-purpose summoning circle in the academy, and somehow broke it, managing to summon a massive amount of [Seaweed] at the same time. Since then, she has been racking her brains daily over how to make use of the seaweed, even as she dried it with her attendants.

App’s Notes:

What ideas do you all have for the use of dried seaweed? Fifteen

Piroton’s Notes:

Dun dun dun… the plot begins to thicken again…

    Thank for the chapter!!!
I can’t wait to see Yurushia’s life at the academy!!!

  2. Mesmerised says:

    Thanks for the chapter!

  3. M says:

Is Dark Beast about to be summoned? Woot!

    • jeg says:

Don’t think so. It took them decades, probably centuries to accumulate enough mana to summon 4 archdemon which Yuru could summon in just a few seconds and still has enough mana to destroy an entire kingdom. But I don’t think she is at a level that which she could summon dark beast. If the daemons do succeed to summon dark beast, it’ll end up with them getting destroyed the moment he takes his first step. All the more so if he is still raging.

      • aram says:

in yuru summoning case she herself wanted to go so my guess is yuru is the 4th master class demon and for now the weakess but didnt cost much to summon because they sacrified ppl to do the summon and didnt have controle over them too the daemon are looking to controle the master class teirfore need more mana to summon him (black bro)

        • Doormatt says:

I don’t think that it’ll take all that much more to get Black Beast, after all, he wants his pet(though I think most of us agree that it goes a little past just that degree…) back, he will be quite willing to be summoned. Though I can imagine him immediately preparing to set out to find his beloved pet.

          • A random potato says:

She already connected to him once back at the magic examination. If she gets added into the equation he should be more than willing to come. I’m betting willingness has something to play into how easily a demon can be summoned.

The daemon king just seems to much of a perfect fit for a body for him. Black and silver on top of crazy powerful and ruler of a country. Dark beast gets to be ruler of the dark kingdom and Golden beast is poised to be the ruler of the kingdom of light.

    • Ac says:

Then a battle starts and the winner get mofu mofu rights to the loser

  4. Joshan says:

    er dark beast coming soon?
    thanks for the chapter ~

  5. nonymouse says:

    Thanks for the chapter!
So black wolf-san is going to be part of the demons?

  6. Degs says:

It’s time for the romance to begin hohoho~
The new emperor of the demons, our dark beast, + the princess saint of humans= adorable babies hohohoho~
When she’s old enough of course *dashes off into the night throwing flowers*

  7. Anonymous says:

    Seaweed?

    Much thanks.

  8. Sherrynity says:

    Please summon the Dark Beast!!

    …or summon Yurushia as a joke 😂

  9. RoflCat says:

    >If it were only normal summoning, several years of magic would have been enough.

To summon ‘that’, it’s better to add magic power for several more years.

(goes into explanation of what he’s trying to summon right after)

    >Of the [Greater Demons] that had appeared a long time ago, it was said that there were three of the [Master Class]…

Said to appear amongst the long-lived Archdemons, were 3 types of [Master Class]…

(your current translation implies there’s only 3 [Master Class] demons total, instead of 3 different types)

    >If one were to be summoned, no amount of preparations would give one peace of mind.

If one want to summon one of those,

(this is just talking of preparing only, the next line explains ‘why’)

I’d probably rant more if I don’t feel the need to not-spoil things here (seriously, some of these translation mistakes are kinda obvious it’s MTL)

    • App says:

My priority, as I said when I picked this up, is to prioritize legibility over accuracy. If you wish to make a difference from the Japanese side, we’re always taking applications.

Feel free, even, to poach the series, though I’d only recommend that option if you’re confident enough in your English to not butcher its readability in the name of an “accurate” translation. (Seriously, the understanding of proper tenses seems like understanding of quantum physics for its rarity. [I work with a lot of foreigners])

We do our best here with the tools we have, we both enjoy the series dearly even though one of us is eastern, the other western, and we both are always happy to have extra help from someone with skills and the courage to offer their time.

      • RoflCat says:

Except that legibility is no excuse to incorrectly translate things.

I can understand shifting sentence/change the words a bit to make it easier to read, but if it ends up with a sentence that is outright different from the original, then you’re putting the cart before the horse.

Case in point from this chapter:

        >Of the [Greater Demons] that had appeared a long time ago, it was said that there were three of the [Master Class]…

This line means that at some point long time ago, a bunch of Archdemons (it’s Archdemons, not Greater Demons, all of your subsequent usage of archdemons use the very same kanji/furigana) showed up, and amongst them were 3 individuals of [Master Class]
Also, the demons showed up where? in this land? given that he later mentioned (probably a single) archdemon can do huge damage, and they already have enough power to summon 4-5 of them and control them, a bunch of them showing up would’ve completely destroyed the place wouldn’t it? Especially with at least 3 stronger individual amongst them as this line implied.

        vs

        Mine:

        >Said to appear amongst the long-lived Archdemons, were 3 types of [Master Class]…

That means after Archdemons live long enough, they can become one of the 3 [Master Class]

Our lines gave completely different meanings.
This line is giving context to the line before it (to summon ‘that’), this as well as lead into the next line (‘if one want to summon one of those’)
(it’s ‘want to summon one’ because all he’s doing right now is the preparation for just summoning one, and in the story so far there’s already multiple demon summonings and none of them have things to prepare after the summoning is done, it’s either contract complete or the demon rampage)

I’ll pass on joining the team, I’m the type that move on a whim.

You’re free to take think of my corrections as a ‘tool’ to utilize though. I only point out mistakes when it’s really bad (note that I don’t debate your use of warlord vs general/commander) so anything I pointed out, especially ones that mine vs your translation is very different, you might want to take that into consideration (if you think I might’ve made mistakes, feel free to consult a 3rd party to double check)

        • App says:

Whim or not, think it over. We honestly could use someone who’s something other than self-taught in the language. (Heck, I’d have been disappointed if you had just said “yes” without thinking about the time commitment)

          • Boo says:

Worse case scenario you guys can always fix it later when the context becomes more clear 🙂

It seems you have stopped the countdown though for the last few chapters, last one was 19 I think?

          • App says:

They’re there, you just need to look a bit harder.

        • Sten4321 says:

          fifteen

    • Piroton says:

      Hi there!

I’m the TLC, so I really greatly appreciate any corrections you guys send in. I’m still a learner, and yes, this is machine-assisted translation. (I do the harder sentences myself with a JP-EN dictionary)

Some of the things you’ve pointed out are very much correct, but some of the others were intentionally left that way for the sake of tone – I prefer to maintain the overall feel of the read over having 100% accuracy, and I hope you understand that I do, from time to time, take some liberties over the wording.

      • RoflCat says:

As I said to App earlier, I’m ok with some change of wordings (like choosing to use daemon for mazoku to differentiate it from demon/akuma, though you’ll probably run into a wall when the author play with the ‘ma’+X later), but not when it completely change the meaning of the sentence.

        It’s like a difference between.
“I’m going out to eat, want to join me?”
        vs
“I went out to eat, you could’ve joined me?”

With just a tense change, the meaning in the sentence is completely different. (one is an invitation, and the other is a question with hint of dissatisfaction)

My recommendation is to never use machine translator to translate a full sentence, they tends to screw up somewhere. Instead use tool like rikaikun chrome extension to get the vocab and read the sentence from there. (since you can use JP-EN dictionary, then you should have understanding on basic grammar at least)
Seriously, give it a go, especially on the lines I pointed out on this chapter.

        • Piroton says:

Oh nice, more resources for my use, thanks!

I greatly appreciate any improvements I can make to my translating process; it hurts my brain right now to do the harder sentences.

  10. Infernal says:

So the place is Australia, but with no faction large enough to establish a governing system?
Not fit for human life? Check.
    Criminals sent there? Check.
Forbidden territory? Australians refer to that as the Outback.

  11. Benny says:

what else can you do besides eating it? I guess the rest of the volume will be Yuru and her attendants eating sea weed. Yep, no ominous foreshadowing at all. Just Yuru sitting at a table with her friends and family and attendants eating seaweed.

    nice and peaceful.

    yup.

  12. kirindas says:

Thanks for the new chapter! They can brew loads of miso soup for the entire town…Oh wait no miso. 😛 Nevermind~

  13. Yuemitsuki says:

Seaweed for eating. Maybe can make into local product.
I will pray that the summoning circle will summon our mighty dark beast and make him meet our lovely golden beast

  14. Aria says:

uwooooo, a large magic summoning circle! The dark beast can make use of that xD (hopefully the world stays intact after that lol!)

    Thank you for the translations!

  15. jeg says:

I’m starting to think that that seaweed is not the kind we see in the ocean. She got it from summoning, it’s likely that it’s a seaweed monster.

  16. Candied Skull says:

    The Golden Saintess of Seaweed.
Now that would be a title.

  17. Reader says:

Didn’t yuru suggest to the bald men to eat vegetables? That could be it’s use. Sell seaweed to the balding———–> profit.

  18. Thor says:

    Demon Princess 3: The Seaweedening.

  19. Wooly Marmot says:

A ridiculous amount of magic power… I wonder whether Yuru was trying to summon Dark Beast? Maybe we’ll hear about it?

  20. DOHere says:

Wasn’t Yuru previously been identified as an Archdemon?

  21. Zypex says:

    D: No Yurushia this chapter

  22. Toaster says:

    Oh, Dark Beast time?

  23. Midnight2630 says:

I think everyone knows already…He is coming for you.

  24. accountmadeforants says:

It’d be hilarious if, instead of summoning a new demon, it just summoned(/teleported) Yurushia again. (It would make for a fun change of pace, too.)

Summoning the Dark Beast might be possible, but only if he helps them out from his end.

Though frankly, I’d rather be introduced to a new demon.

  25. Random Internet User (tm) says:

Thank you kindly for all the hard work!

  26. Kurenaro says:

    Thanks for the chapter desu~

  27. thanghe says:

When I read thicken, I though you are talking about seaweed soup…

  28. Daniel says:

    Fu*K!!
I have fall in love with this novel.
The greatest novel I ever read!
I hope to see dark beast!!!!

  29. Hwang says:

Oh. look like you delete my previous comment.
Anyway, thanks for the chapter man!
Looking forward to see the reaction people in academy.

  30. Goodx4 says:

    Thanks for the Chapter~!!!

  31. linnil says:

    Mystery seaweed?

  32. SantaRanic says:

That white countdown.. COULD IT BE??!

  33. Nori demon summoning!
She must have been Japanese in her poorly remembered previous past life.
Odds the end of the volume involves daemon sushi ? Especially if they open a gate the Dark Beast can come through looking for his Golden Beast.
    Lol
    Thanks for the chapter
