Chapter 32 – The Third Chapter of the Book of Order
Nie Yan’s gaze peered through every corner of the forest before finally passing through a certain shrub beneath the mountain base, where his eyes immediately locked onto its location.
The shrub was knee-height and had many branches. It appeared similar to a jade sculpture—pure, translucent, and radiating with vibrant colours. Hidden between the leaves was a single scarlet red fruit that resembled a cherry—tender and glistening.
This is a Red Urnberry! I didn’t think a plant like this could appear in such a low-level area!
Nie Yan’s memories were still quite clear; during the latter years of his past life, the selling price of a single Red Urnberry reached up to several hundred gold. Moreover, the properties for each and every Red Urnberry were different.
He walked towards the steep mountain wall and carefully harvested the Red Urnberry from its shrub. Fortunately he had learnt the gatherer skill, otherwise he would’ve had no chance in retrieving this fruit. Such a circumstance would have truly been unfortunate.
Red Urnberry (Rare Fruit)
Description: Eating this fruit will cause the player to gain +2 Willpower permanently.
Restriction: Each player may only consume this fruit up to three times. Further consumption will not result in any additional effects.
Considering the Red Urnberry’s inherent rarity, and the fact it could also increase a player’s stats permanently, it was no wonder this fruit could sell for upwards of several hundred gold.
Nie Yan contemplated for a while before deciding to eat the fruit. After all, this was a rare opportunity. Besides, this fruit was meant to be eaten anyway. Only a fool would actually sell it.
An additional two willpower was quite decent. Willpower was a stat that reduced the effectiveness of debuffs on a player such as sickness, poison, curses, resistance debuffs, etc… It didn’t matter if it were a fight between players or killing monsters, willpower was a stat that would always be useful. After all, the number of mobs and classes that could cast debuffs on a player weren’t few at all.
As the fruit entered his mouth, it melted and became a warm current that flowed into his stomach.
Nie Yan gazed at his willpower stat. It had gone from zero to two.
Having two willpower at such a low level was rather useful. After eating the Red Urnberry, he didn’t dally any further and headed deeper into the forest.
He continued walking on the small path between the grass for roughly five minutes and finally entered the deeper part of the forest. The trees were lusher and more exuberant, while the light that could penetrate down to the forest undergrowth became much dimmer.
Dead leaves covered the surface of the forest floor and stretched far deeper into the forest.
A bright ray of light shone through the gaps of the dense foliage, the darkness within the forest making it seem all the more prominent and clear.
Between the ray of light was a cylindrical column carved out of stone about a meter in height. Placed atop this column was a thick book. The pages of the book appeared eroded by the elements, its contents ruined over the ages as its very state seemed to narrate the book’s very long and distant history.
Nie Yan still remembered; this book was aptly named “Annal of the Era of Shared Governance.” Its contents detailed all of the historical events that occurred during the Era of Shared Governance.
The Chapter of Courage was hidden within this thick history book.
Nie Yan walked up to the book and extended his right hand towards the cover. The moment his fingers made contact with the book, it automatically opened and began rapidly flipping through its pages.
Suddenly, a narration began playing.
「Within this secret forest, you’ve discovered this thick book that chronicles the history of an ancient era. When you place your hand on this book, you suddenly feel a mysterious force enter your body. “What’s this?” you inquire to yourself while brimming with curiosity. Afterwards, the pages of the book begin flipping open by themselves, revealing mysterious characters carved in silver. You learn this ‘Annals of the Era of Shared Governance” was written from the combination of three languages: the Kasate Giant language, Ancient Universal language, and Draconic language. With newly found knowledge, you record this history in your head.」
「System: You’ve learned the language of the Kasate Giants.」
「System: You’ve learned the language of the Dragons.」
「System: You’ve learned the ancient language of the common people.」
「System: You’ve received the “Annals of the Era of Shared Governance.”」
The Atlanta continent contained over three hundred languages. Before, Nie Yan had only learnt the current common language, which was the language of the Humans. Yet suddenly, he learned three new languages. He quickly glanced at his information page and realized it had a new section titled “Annals of the Era of Shared Governance.” Inside, there was a description of every notable event that occurred during that era.
This sort of data was very valuable. It could help Nie Yan accomplish many tasks and and identify various items.
This “Annals of the Era of Shared Governance” will save me a lot of time and trouble when completing quests related to that era, Nie Yan couldn’t help but think to himself.
「“Eh?” You are surprised to discover a separate piece of paper tucked away between the pages of the book. There are rows of mysterious characters on this page that read as gibberish, dark golden in colour. Slowly, you realize these characters are the language of the Kasate Giants, which spell out: Chapter of Courage.」
I’ve finally found it! Nie Yan thought to himself with pleasant surprise and glanced at the chapter’s properties.
Chapter of Courage: The third chapter of the first volume of the Book of Order, an incomplete piece of the legendary book.

User Restriction: Can only be bound by a member of the Righteous faction who protects the light.
Note: Item effects are applied immediately upon entering the player’s bag.
Nie Yan stared out blankly as his hands began to lightly tremble. In his past life, he had seen the properties of this chapter on the internet before. But now, as he held it in his hands, it was a different feeling entirely. He reckoned this Adjudicator of God was the very skill the guild leader of Holy Empire, Sleepy Fox, had used to slaughter his way through two hundred players in his past life. Moreover, the player would become immune to every single type of magic. What kind of overpowered ability was this? What was more disgusting was the fact that Sleepy Fox already had top-tier equipment in the first place. If you added immunity to all magic, five hundred health, and a shield that absorbed sixty percent of all damage, his strength would become excessive beyond reason. It would have truly been like meeting a god of death on the battlefield. However, the cooldown period of the skill was still quite high. It would take ten days before the skill could be activated again. Most likely, unless they were in a critical juncture, a player wouldn’t rashly use this skill.
Besides Adjudicator of God, the other chapter’s other properties were quite powerful as well, especially the one that allowed a player to gain an additional two stat points and one skill point every five levels. Nie Yan was practically bursting with happiness. From his knowledge, the only professions that came close to this were Shamans, Paladins, and Dark Knights which also gained two additional stat points every five levels. However, due to their profession’s characteristics, they had to evenly distribute their stats between strength and intellect, because those professions would practically be useless if only focused on a single stat. However, a Thief was different. On top of the five stat points and one skill point he would gain every five levels from Level 0 to 30, he would also gain two additional stat points and one skill point every five levels from this Chapter of Courage. Nie Yan understood what this meant.
If you included the other stat bonuses and properties of the chapter, Nie Yan had effectively leapt up to become one of the top experts if not the strongest player in the game. This chapter from the Book of Order clearly lived up to its name as a legendary existence.
After placing the Chapter of Courage into his knapsack, Nie Yan glanced at his stat page. Immediately, several of his stats rose by a large amount.
When Adjudicator of God came off cooldown, he would become unequaled in terms of combat strength.
However, from now on, he would have to take caution whenever he was killing mobs or fighting players, because if he died, the Chapter of Courage would immediately drop from his body. The only way to prevent this was to find the other five chapters and complete the first volume of the Book of Order.
Despite finally retrieving the Chapter of Courage, Nie Yan didn’t relax or loosen his guard at all. After storing the chapter in his knapsack, he took out a Return Scroll and began channeling it.
「System: Unable to activate Return Scroll from this location.」
